HEADHUNTER toughs it out
Monday, 19 Jan 2026

HEADHUNTER overcame the outside barrier to post consecutive wins at Doomben on Saturday.
Rider Jag Guthmann-Chester made a decisive early move from barrier 11 at the 1640m start which allowed HEADHUNTER to snare the one-out, one-back position by the time field entered the back straight.
Guthmann-Chester then made his move to make a line of three turning for home and HEADHUNTER responded gamely, gradually wearing down DETRIMENTAL to score a long neck on the line.
Saturday's win followed a similarly gritty triumph at the Sunshine Coast 16 days earlier and enhanced the 4yo gelding's overall record to three wins and three placings from nine starts.
HEADHUNTER, a son of VANCOUVER, races in the pink and yellow silks of Mr Blight and is a half-brother to NASHVILLE JACK, runner-up of the $3million Sunlight (1100m) at the Gold Coast earlier this month.
It's been fast start to 2026 for the Hoysted team, with HEADHUNTER being the stable's 7th winner.
