APEX PREDATOR pounces!

APEX PREDATOR’s debut victory at Doomben Wednesday marked Proven Thoroughbreds’ 2nd juvenile winner in the space of a week.

The Matt Hoysted trained filly started a $3.10 favourite in the midweek maiden and duly saluted, following in the hoofsteps of stablemate RULE THE NIGHT at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Jockey Jag Guthmann-Chester, who was also aboard RULE THE NIGHT, was full of admiration for APEX PREDATOR after returning to her throng of owners.

“I thought she was really gutsy in the way she bit down on the bridle and had a crack when the second horse came at her,” he said.

“The track is a 7 but I think it’s probably a bit wetter than that and she didn’t quicken as well as I expected her to and was under pressure so she did a great job to fight on and win.

“I’ve always had a lot of confidence in her so to see her come here today and do that was very pleasing.”

Will to win is undoubtedly the most important ingredient for a racehorse so it was very encouraging to see APEX PREDATOR fend off her challengers over the final 100m and score by half a length.

She is the fifth first crop winner for EXTREME CHOICE’s son TIGER OF MALAY and was acquired for a bargain price of $35,000 from Glenlogan Park at last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

With Wednesday’s win carrying QTIS eligibility, APEX PREDATOR has already earned back her purchase price with $37,750 allocated to the winner.
