Duchess Dominant!

Late bloomer DUCHESS DIFFICULT disposed of her maiden in emphatic style at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

The 4yo mare started a $4.80 second elect in the Fillies & Mares 1200m Maiden Plate and relished the heavy (8) conditions under the guidance of Jag Guthmann-Chester.

After obtaining a comfortable lead, DUCHESS DIFFIULT travelled sweetly throughout and her advantage was never threatened in the run home, as she maintained a strong gallop to win by 1.5 lengths.

With all the rain South-East Queensland has endured over the past week, handling wet ground was always going to be a prerequisite for running at the meeting and DUCHESS DIFFICULT fit the bill, having run a solid 2nd on a heavy track at the Sunshine Coast back in April.

Her record now reads 5 starts for a win and a pair of placings. Wednesday’s breakthrough victory would suggest there’s more to come from the daughter of SPIRIT OF BOOM, who races in the Lavin Park silks made famous by the stable’s best performed galloper UNCOMMON JAMES.
